Remake: The Book by BOOOOOOOM

Years back (say 2012-2013) BOOOOOOOM made an open call for art remakes for a future book they were planning on making. I being myself, decided to summit 2 of the remakes I made for my Photography II class back in 2012. I forgot all about it until weeks ago, I received an email asking for my mail address to mail me the book. I did make it into the book! I got two copies and felt all the feelings when I saw my face inside the book.

Moral of the story: I will never stop sending stuff whenever an open call is made cause, so far, I've been lucky enough to be published in two different projects! PSYCHED!

Thank you, BOOOOOOOM!

{Café 401}

Hello!
It's been 6 months since my last entry. Little bit sad about it BUT I've been all kinds of busy. First of all, I've been working since June for a digital agency as a graphic designer which means my free time has gone from 90% to 20%. University is driving me insane BUT I finally finished this semester and the next semester is my last one taking classes, and {hopefully} I'll be done with university next year. Yay!

Anyway, one of my friends from work told me he had a friend who opened a cafe recently and was looking for someone to paint the door and glass of the shop. For some divine reason, he thought of me and that's how I pretty much got the chance to paint a big piece for a local cafe, Cafe401

I made the illustration in Illustrator, printed the whole thing out {NEVER print a 106" x 86" or something piece on a bunch 8.5" x 11" it's going to be a nightmare, it's going to be hell} I was nervous, dizzy, excited, giggling last Thursday  as I went to the cafe and put everything together.

From 18.00 til' 23.00 I was painting non-stop {ok, I did stop for some food and water. I NEED MY FOOD AND WATER} and the result was pretty much satisfying.  Here's a little hyper lapse of the door and the papers and whatnot.
 I didn't have the chance to take what you might call "decent photos" but my friend took some random ones that will {sort of} let you see the whole thing. I will eventually take some time to take some photos of the whole thing.

{Wallpeople 2014}

The 7th of June was this year's Wallpeople.
The theme was everything nature related. I decided to give it a try {after I almost bailed on it cause I was going to be all alone, etc} and made a little something. All in all, it was a nice activity. There was a guy who wanted my piece so SUCCESS!

My dear mate, Patricia, showed up at the end after all! Yay, Patricia! She is holding one of my two pieces {they are basically the same only difference is one has the legs coloured and the other isn't}

{Doodlers Anonymous Coloring Book}

Volume 3, that is.
I few months ago, I saw that Doodlers Anonymous had an open call for it's Coloring Book. I didn't know what I was going to make but I sure knew I wanted to submit something. After getting the longest art block of my life, I came up with something. Not the greatest thing but I submit it anyway. And so I waited and waited till they announced they were going to be mailing the ones who made it in 2 days.

Book cover and GIF by Doodlers Anonymous
Volume 3 of the Doodlers Anonymous coloring book features the doodles and drawings of 60 artists from around the globe - some fresh novices, others seasoned veterans, all of whom share a love for the hand-drawn.
The artwork is playful, beautiful and inspiring - not something off the shelf. So treat yourself, your family, and your faves to a little bit of happy!
I lost all hope of making it when, all of the sudden, I got a mail saying my drawing made it! 670 submissions and MINE made! Of course I started squeaking, giggling and whatnot like a moron but it's not everyday my so-called art make it somewhere.

Still can't get over this. First time something I made got into something so you can {and will} feel my excitement for a while. You can get the coloring book here as well as the past 2 volumes and some other goodies.

2014 is just in a couple of hours so HAPPY NEW YEAR, MATES! {For those of you on the other side of the planet} I normally make resolutions but forget them in 2 days top so I'm not going to fool myself this year and just do what it seems right. See you next year!

{27ª Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales}

Last Friday I went to the 27ª Bienal Nacional de Artes Visuales. As usual, a bunch of kids from some school where there. I listened to people talk about certain pieces in a... let's just say you don't want to hear those comments ever again, a guy who works at the museum saw my Batman shirt and started to talk about it and how he had "the whole batman outfit when I was 17", and my polaroid failing on me when I tried to take a photo of something and it turning out to be completely black. As for the pieces this year I'm not entirely sure what to think of them. Some I like, some I did not.

Really disappointed at how my photos turned out. I really need to get a camera. In the meantime I'll have to manage.

{2012}

At the beginning of the year I made this post.
At first I was all "this is going to be easy" well, it wasn't. The fact that my phone died while I was in NJ didn't help either {since I took 90% of the photos with my phone camera since it was easier} but I managed. So here it is, From where I stand:

2012 was a pretty decent year for me so let's just hope 2013 doesn't come with any tricky stuff. I think I'll do another photo project or something like that. We'll see.
Happy New Year's Eve mates!

{Dip Dye}

Again.
Last year I had my hair dip dyed in a really rich phthalo blue. I wanted the same color this year but my sister only found a sort of teal one.

 Gave it a try. Leslie came {like last year} and did my hair. It was really frustrating since the moment I took it out, part of it stayed blond {I had to bleach my tips hence the blond color} so I had to re-dye it. This is how it turned out.

I guess I like it? I need to give it some time to get used to the color since it's kind of light for my taste. Also, this is how my t-shirt end up looking like:

{Good Bye NJ}

After 3 months of living with 2 of the most amazing people I've ever met in my entire life, I'm back to my country.
Last Thursday the park throw a sort of Award dinner/party for all the employees. Lots and lots of tears, laughs and such were shared that night since it was going to be the last party and, for some, the last day at the park {Not the last day for the Dominicans. That was Friday but whatever}
Jamaicans, Romanians, Americans, Turkish, Chinese, Ukrainians and else were all gathered together in this awesome night that marked the end of one of the best summers of my entire life.

We made this "mural" as a present to one of our supervisors. I painted the girls' faces and draw the Britney spears.

And that is how this summer ends for me. Now I'm back to University classes, stressing out and such. Oh life...

{I Love NY}

Really, I do love NY
Last Wednesday we have a trip to NYC provided by  the amusement park I've been working this summer.

Starting with an early rise {Around 05.00} me and my friends, Patricia and Natali {You'll see them in the photos more than you'll see me so they are the models for this post}, headed to the park to meet with the others and headed to the big apple.

Lots of ravens, fog {I might add I love fog} a lots and lots of laughs.

Around 10.00 we finally arrived to the center of  NYC! I've been missing this city so much! We started walking around and just enjoying everything.

We ended up in the Fashion walk of fame. Lots of  tall buildings, lots of people. At one point we saw a group of beautiful ladies walking around and I kept staring at them when I realized one of them was Lisa Jackson from ANTM! Natali just starting shouting at me "THAT'S THE GIRL FROM ANTM! THAT'S HER!"

After that beautiful 10 seconds emotional moment, we went back to our search of looking a place to eat something aka we were desperate for food. We ended up in Chipotle. As soon as we open the door there was this key-chain with the Dominican flag on and we were just like "Mmm well..." and, of course, the guys working there couldn't be more Dominican. We chat a little while they were serving our food. From where we are from to "US$1.25 to add avocado?! You can buy a goddamn avocado for RD$20.00!" Thanks Patricia.Oh and the design for everything in Chipotle? Oh boy... I just died and went to hand drawn typography heaven {If you know me well enough, you'll know that I'm a sucker for hand drawn things}

We headed back to Time Square where I personally stalked some people. I found a group of Asian but one in particularly caught my attention. Well, her pretty little brown boots did.

We went to Toys R Us where we were just fooling around with everything.

Then we went to Aeropostale where Natali bought some stuff. Since I'm not an Aeropostale lover I
just went to the upper side of the store to see the city.

Then we went to the Disney store where I was almost crying since they have things with the "Old Mickey" which is my favorite!

Wandering on the streets we found a lady promoting Chicago, a street artist making a portrait of a dog and some random food stands.

Something that killed me was the Duff and Flaming Moe cans we founded on a gift shop *cries*

WE FOUND A RECORD STORE! *More cries* it was too much. I didn't want to leave, ever. I found records from The Strokes, Green Day and a bunch of other artist and I just... I can't.

Ended up in Madame Tussaud's where they have Morgan Freeman outside. Then we went to Ripley's where this man was putting a swore down his throat.

After this the camera just died but we just went shopping and sightseeing. It was a pretty good, tiring day at NYC and I'm really looking forward to go back.

OH, by the way, NYC knows me too well to have a bakery shop named Baked by Melissa with a cupcake logo. I love you.
