{Café 401}

Hello!
It's been 6 months since my last entry. Little bit sad about it BUT I've been all kinds of busy. First of all, I've been working since June for a digital agency as a graphic designer which means my free time has gone from 90% to 20%. University is driving me insane BUT I finally finished this semester and the next semester is my last one taking classes, and {hopefully} I'll be done with university next year. Yay!

Anyway, one of my friends from work told me he had a friend who opened a cafe recently and was looking for someone to paint the door and glass of the shop. For some divine reason, he thought of me and that's how I pretty much got the chance to paint a big piece for a local cafe, Cafe401

I made the illustration in Illustrator, printed the whole thing out {NEVER print a 106" x 86" or something piece on a bunch 8.5" x 11" it's going to be a nightmare, it's going to be hell} I was nervous, dizzy, excited, giggling last Thursday  as I went to the cafe and put everything together.

From 18.00 til' 23.00 I was painting non-stop {ok, I did stop for some food and water. I NEED MY FOOD AND WATER} and the result was pretty much satisfying.  Here's a little hyper lapse of the door and the papers and whatnot.
 I didn't have the chance to take what you might call "decent photos" but my friend took some random ones that will {sort of} let you see the whole thing. I will eventually take some time to take some photos of the whole thing.

{Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair}

*tunununtunun*
Ok so MORE Arctic Monkeys! yay! I've been listening to the Arctic Monkeys non-stop for the last couple of weeks therefore I painted something. The Don't Sit Down 'Cause I've Moved Your Chair video is um pretty interesting...

I was planing on making 4 stills from the video but university finals had me with zero free time and/or inspiration to finish them so I just made two. Note: Getting the same neon colors is IMPOSSIBLE with watercolors.

Materials:

  • Canson Paper
  • Watercolors

{French Proverb}

"Hope is the dream of a man awake"
I made this watercolor background months ago but I didn't know what to do with it. Last night {around 02.00} I decided to make a typography "inspirational" poster. I started searching for some quotes and I end up reading this one "Hope is the dream of a man awake" I really liked it so I made this:

Materials:
  • Canson Watercolor Paper
  • Watercolors
  • Acrylic Paint {White}

{Latin for "and"}

Ampersand.
I got this 8" x 8" canvas a long time ago. While searching for DIY projects, I ended up here. It's a cool project yet simple to do. I decided to give it a try and end up with this:
Materials:
  • Canvas.
  • Acrylics {White, Crimson}

{No, no, no}

No.
That day when everything simply sucked. This canvas probably has around 4 layers of different paintings I did but disliked right away. I ended up spray painting it with black and simply did this.
Materials:
  • Canvas.
  • Spray Paint {Black}
  • Acrylic.

{Sakura}

Cherry Blossom.
Hey there! Yesterday I was looking at different Japanese art at Flickr and there is something about it that I really love. I wanted to try something my self and this is what I end up painting:
Materials:
  • Water Colors.
  • Canson.

{New York City Cops... They ain't too smart}

Mooore The Strokes!
This is a song I absolutely love and, since I'm in the typography poster phase, I decided to make one out of this song. After not finding a decent sketchbook {since I want a Moleskine and they don't sell them here} I "made" one. I just stashed some cards in an old photo album.
After sketching down my idea I tried different fonts and my friend helped me pick the one he liked the best. At some point I thought I was going to run out of gold paint but, thanks God, I didn't:
Surprisingly, I do like the way this turned out, well... sort of. This is my third The Strokes "mini poster" I made. Final Piece:
Materials:
  • Acrylics.
  • Canson.

{Say Cheese!}

I've always wanted to paint something like this.
After hours and hours of thinking what to draw, I decided to try this. It took me hours to paint this since I didn't know what colors to use:
They didn't exactly turned out the shade I wanted them to be, but I kind of like it. Final Piece:
Materials:
  • Acrylics.
  • Canson.
  • Fountain Pen.

(Anglesˆ2)+1

THIS looked better in my head.
I had this idea while I was making the names poster. I was planing on making something different but end up doing this instead. It was... should I say interesting? I really don't know.

The background was really frustrating! I'm not doing checkerboards, ever. The final piece:

Materials:
  • Acrylics.
  • Canson.

{Keep Calm and...}

I enjoy dyeing paper with coffee.
I was trying to go for the old yellowing look here so basically what I did was torn all the border of the paper, dyed it with instant coffee and burned the borders. After that, I printed the letters I wanted to put in the paper and use a fountain pen to paint them:

This is not gonna be mine, it's for a friend that really likes Harry Potter and I felt like doing a little something for her. I think I'm going to glue a white or black feather but here is the final piece:

Materials:
  • Instant coffee.
  • Black fountain pen.
  • Fire {I used my stove}.
  • Canson.

{Julian & Fab & Nick & Albert & Nikolai}

Going back to The Strokes now.
I've been wanting to do something like a this for a real long time. For some reason I enjoy simple, typography posters and The Strokes have this pretty awesome desktop background featuring their names in white font over a black background. It's really simple, just the way I like it. So I decided to paint it to have it as a small poster:
I think I will be making more like this. My fountain pen died when I was starting this ugh! but anyways, here is the final piece:
Materials:
  • Acrylics.
  • Canson.

{Les Poumons}

There is something you should know about me: I enjoy painting organs.
I really don't understand why but there is something about them that I just quite enjoy while painting. I'm not sure if it's because that's what I'm suppose to have inside me or the colors... I don't know:
Getting the red/brown part down was a little bit tricky since it didn't come out as I was expecting. Final Piece:
Materials:
  • Acrylics.
  • Canson.
